I’m pretty sure I shot more photos on 35mm film than I did on my digital camera this year and have a box full of prints to show for it. If you ever come by the house, ask me about it and I’ll show you. Until then check out some of these shots of Mike Schmitt on our morning commutes, lunch breaks from work and weekend sessions around the city. I’m really stoked on how a couple of these double exposures turned out and am finally starting to figure out the formula. Check out more 35mm photos HERE.
Ed Wonka Laforte Presents “Harness The Gnarness” a FGFS Jam hosted in Down Town Oakland this weekend. 11.16.14 There’s going to be a $5 entry fee to make things a little more interesting for those who want to compete as well as prizes to be given out along the way to all those who ride. We’ll meeting up at Madison Park “Dragon Park” which is located between 8th & 9th next to the Lake Meritt Bart Station at noon. From there we’ll be riding spot to spot until the sun sets. Double Exposures were something that I experimented with quite a bit when I first started shooting 35mm film, and have since then fallen out of touch with this drunken sense of double vision. Here’s some of the first few double exposures I took, featuring Fixed Gear Freestyle’s very own Ed “Wonnka” Laforte. Although it may sometimes be difficult to see, I enjoy the added interest stacking shots gives to the photograph. Case and point being the image on top that shows both a closeup and wide shot of the same grind. Read more below or check out other 35mm photos HERE.
With public transportation reigning supreme in the Bay Area, it’s rare that we ride anywhere that isn’t within range of the bus, bart, train, ferry, or riding to the spot. It’s always great having Dave Beard come out to take behind the scenes photos when we go out to ride. This day was the first time I did a tooth hangover down a handrail or 360 over gap with a fatal drop. After a successful day of being guided from spot to spot by Ramon Antonio, we wrapped up the day by hitting the Vallejo Skatepark before we headed home. Check out more photos from our trip to Vallejo HERE.

Mike T. Schmitt’s bike was out of commission most of the day, but that didn’t stop him from riding the bowl at the local skatepark and catching these two photos. Mike is the only person I see attempting handplants on a regular basis, and has been doing so for years. Check out more photos from our trip to Vallejo HERE.

Yesterday I went riding around San Francisco w/ Anthony Combs who crashed out in the little bungalow beneath my bed the night before. We checked out the new skatepark they built beneath the highway and rode some spots in the surrounding neighborhoods. Mike laced Anthony up the new aluminum TURF Cranks, sprocket, and a front hub. The find of the day definitely had to be the load of florescent lightbulbs we found wedged into a street can in the TL. It’s been a while since I’ve ridden with Anthony but I guarantee that you’ll be seeing a lot more of him in the near future.
Mike Schmitt & I have lived under the same roof for a while now, and have been stacking a ton of footage during that time. It makes it easy to film having somebody else who rides living one room away. Here’s some long angle shots I took in between filming clips across the East Bay. That’s our dude Jaoa Danaikrit crouched on the steps like a ninja with a camera in his hands. It was good having the Thai dudes in town with a second camera so we could shoot multiple angles on our weekly excursions. Keep your eyes peeled for the clips to accompany these photos.
With the summer in full effect, we’ve been making use of the extended daylight and doing a lot of filming after work. Here’s an older photo I found of Ed Wonka doing a smith with only a sliver of light left illuminating the spot. Although this photograph is only a few months old, the loading dock has been completely covered by cement and fenced off. We managed to shoot this image a couple days before they remodeled the exterior of the building and covered up the spot. Photo Credit : Matt Reyes
