We spent the Sunday before Ride & Style riding around California St & China Town. Mike Schmitt rolled the edge of the China Banks that drop off onto the street below. Dave Beard popped off some great B&W medium format shots of Ramon Antonio III riding pegs down an alley way rail and hopping into this 8 flat 9. Last Sunday Mike Schmitt & I cruised around our humble island abode here in Alameda and brought along with us the trusty 35mm Camera. We lurked around the abandoned military base & rode along the incredibly windy coastline in search of spots in less than likely locations. I came across an old truck bench that we pulled out of the trash and sessioned for a bit. After catching a couple quick photos we ventured into the tall grass along the coast and circled back into the old Naval Base where Mike rolled this barred fence that was propped up against another. I was the most stoked to find this teeter totter that we had previously thought was gone for good after its recent disappearance. Before the official release of Word Is Bond we hosted 2 premieres in California. One at Lower Branch Art Gallery in San Francisco, and the second at iMiNUSD in San Jose. We met up with some of the locals in SJ & cruised around from spot to spot. Thanks for everyone who came out to ride and hang out.
Seitaro Iki shot this photo of Ed Wonka muscling out a tooth hangover while we wrapped up filming for the new Turf Bikes video. If you’ve seen Word Is Bond, then I’m sure you’ll recognize this shot from the last clip in his section. Ed hangovers rails that few would even attempt, and has no problems blasting through even the deadliest of kinks. Which is why I consider tooths to be Ed’s signature move. After nearly a year of filming with the Turf Mob we’re proud to introduce our first video as a team, “Word Is Bond”. We spent most of 2013 filming across the US, with riders from all over the world. Thank you to everyone who helped film, drive, watch for security, buy snacks, and come out to ride. This video wouldn’t haven been possible without you.
Given the fact that we shoot most of our stills on 35mm film, the TURF Sundaze posts are always about a week behind. Last Sunday we roamed around Oakland with Egg The Dog, a regular addition to The Mob. He’s either strapped to Mike’s back or running along side us as we lurked from spot to spot. We’ve been gearing up for the release of Word Is Bond for quite some time now and have never generated this type of hype for a free online video before. Usually the only videos that have premiere’s are DVD’s, but considering the amount of time we spent making this monumental video, we decided to make an exception.
