Wheel Talk – Aero Cat Kit

October 6, 2014
What feels like forever, and has definitely been discussed by myself and Slumworm for many years, is finally coming to fruition. The first official Wheel Talk kit is now available for pre-order. The kit was designed by Slum and myself, and manufactured by Cuore. The price is $270 and is a jersey/bib combo, so if you buy a medium jersey you get medium bibs. Shipping is $5 to anywhere in the US and $15 anywhere else in the world. If you live in San Francisco send me an email and we can work out a drop off location and I’ll refund your shipping. Since this is a pre-order I will ship out kits as soon as I receive them, which should be roughly 6 weeks after the orders close.

I spent this weekend riding in the kit and can say that it’s very comfortable. It was in the mid 90’s this weekend and the jersey kept me nice and cool. The fit is nice and snug with a race cut. If you have any of the Strava Gran Fondo jerseys this is the same cut. I’m a small in almost every cycling brand I’ve worn and the same is true for this line from Cuore.

Every so often the dudes from San Jose come up to stay at our pad in the East Bay and ride over the weekend. Jimmy Watcha, Kent Ly, and Luciano Ortiz are just a few of the local riders from SJ that you should keep your eye on. After a long day of riding street spots in Oakland, we hit up China Town to grab some cheap grub before riding back under the bay through the Webster Tube. Check out more 35mm Photos HERE.

A Weekend With Skratch Labs Matcha+Lemons

September 8, 2014

If you’ve ever ridden with me you know that I like to start my rides with a cappuccino. During the week it’s usually matcha that keeps me going at work, though. Matcha tends to give me a longer lasting energy rather than the jolt of coffee that leaves me hunting another cup when I crash.  When I heard Skratch Labs was releasing a product with matcha I knew I wanted to give it a try, and thanks to a quick order by Cykel I had some to sample.

ALAMEDA SKATEPARK SEND OFF

September 1, 2014

After more than 3 months of surfing the couches at our pad in Alameda, Dew Sippawit & Jaoa Danaikrit reluctantly flew back to Thailand last month. We celebrated their final day in the States by kicking back and cutting loose at the local skatepark. A couple of dudes from San Jose drove up the day before to ride and bid the Thai boys a proper farewell. We stacked a ton of footage while they were here, and just got back from a trip to China, so keep your eyes peeled for more of Dew & Jaoa coming in the near future. Read more and check out some stills from the video below.

After flying over 5,900 Miles over the pacific from San Francisco to China for the 2014 Fixed Gear Open 6 in Beijing I had seen a lot of places and met even more people. Dew Sippawit & Jaoa Danaikrit met up with me out there shred and stack clips as a team. Dew threw some huge tuck no hander to barspins, 180 tuck no handers, nose manual to barspins, and ended up winning the Freestyle event. Jaoa Danaikrit came in a close second and I won the high jump clearing 105cm. It was amazing to see so many talented young riders in China and inspiring to watch Ines Brunn ride who has a stye unlike anybody I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve ever taken so many photos, signed so many autographs, or smiled so much in my life. Thank you for all the riders who love this community enough to put on this event and make this sport happen.

Weekend Trip/California Drought

August 25, 2014

Over the weekend I went to Gilroy to visit the family, do some riding, get my head on straight again, and to see how the drought has had an effect on the area. Living in San Francisco it’s often times hard to remember that we are in a drought because everything is so green around us and there is no mandatory conservation. Gilroy, however, has very little to no water and have had mandatory water conservation, with a $500 a day fine, in act since August 1st. Gilroy is also a major farming community so it’s interesting to see all this dry land and then ride by moist fertile farmland with sprinklers shooting out water without a care in the world.
