LOST AND FOUND GRAVEL GRINDER RACE 2019

June 7, 2019

The Northern Sierras of California are a quite a special place and even more so… if you mix in gravel bikes. I’ve known about the Lost and Found race for awhile but hadn’t felt 100% ready to tackle the 100 mile gravel grinder until this year and man, was it totally worth it.

The race kicks off in a mass start for everyone in the 102 mile format (there’s also a 67 and a 35 mile format). This mass of cyclists is lead at the very front by highway patrol eventually leading us to our first gravel road. We’d spend the next 8 1/2+ hours peddling through what seemed like every type of gravel mountain terrain imaginable. It had been raining heavy yet sporadic in the Sierras leading up to the race, providing ample mud pits with even snow still present on the course in numerous areas.

THIS IS MISSION CRIT 2019

June 5, 2019

MISSION CRIT 2019. Riders, speed junkies, and spectators from all over the world flocked to the streets of San Francisco for what was bound to be the premier fixed gear criterium of the season. It was great to see so many people come together to share in a mutual love for track bikes. Things just keep getting better as the amount of people I see doing wheelies at these things only continues to grow.

This is a bike race, and it’s going to be the best one of the year.

James Grady

Shout out to James Grady + everyone else who helps make this event happen year after year. I think I speak for everyone when I say thank you for all of the hard work and dedication you’ve put into making these good times happen for all us knuckle heads. You the real MVPs.

JAKE LANICH “FIXED GEAR’S FLAVOR FLAV”

June 4, 2019

Jake Lanich. What to say about Jake Lanich. Hmmm… Well I guess you can start out by saying that he’s one of the most hyphy riders in the fixed gear community. Yeah, hyphy is a good way of saying it. If you’ve ever seen Jake ride, it’s kind of like watching an episode of “Pimp my Ride” slash that one time Ozzy bit the head off that bat. It’s wild. Like a bat outta hell is what I’m trying to say. Like if Flavor Flav could ride bikes, he’d ride like Jake. Chains out, bikes up, full throttle, you know the deal. Keep your eyes peeled for a bike check I shot of him in DTSF earlier this day and we’ll see you soon.

FIXED GEAR BIKE CHECK – ANDY SPARK’S (GALAXY FIGHTER)

May 31, 2019

Andy Sparks breaks down his Fixed Gear Freestyle setup part by part, and walks us through every little detail. Andy’s bike has become an iconic part of him and has remained relatively unchanged for nearly a decade. After shooting this with him, it’s easy to see why he loves this build so much and it’s clear that Andy not only rides hard, but also knows how to take care of his things. In words of the man himself, “ride em until they don’t ride anymore.”

Check out a written version below and follow Andy’s YT Channel. He’s constantly posting tutorials and breaking down the inner workings of some of your favorite fixie tricks.

LA TRACKLOCROSS 2019 RACE NO.2

May 29, 2019

Things are really starting to take flight for the Tracklocross community. It’s been rad to watch everyone come together and organize these races on a seemingly global level. With branches popping up all over the world the vibes are only getting stronger and the momentum is growing.

The second race of the season happened over the weekend here in Los Angeles and this time it was on a contained course. Making it easier to run around and shoot photos at different parts of the track. Shout out to everyone who helps organize these events and facilitate all the moving pieces. It’s because of people like you that we get to show up, kick back, crack cans and enjoy the good times. Check out more photos below, and we’ll see you at the next one.

LA TRACKLOCROSS – FIRST RACE OF THE SEASON

May 24, 2019

Well I made it to the mountain, but didn’t end up riding much of the actual race or dirt sections of this on / off road alleycat. Shout out to everyone who towed me up the hill, LA TRACKLOCROSS for throwing the event and Golden Saddle Cyclery for letting us loiter. There’s another Tracklocross race happening this Saturday and this time it’s going to be on a closed course. More details HERE, check out screen shots from this video below and we’ll see you at the next race.

FIXED GEAR SF – ANDY SPARKS RIDING ON AIR

May 16, 2019

Andy Sparks, your favorite rider’s favorite rider. I rode with Andy a bunch while I was in SF last month. We filmed a bike check of his Trick Track setup and broke it down piece by piece. He talks about why he’s been running the same chain for the last 6 years and how every part isn’t done until it’s dusted. After that I shot a bunch of fisheye shots of him thrusting his signature bronco bunny hop technique. He almost landed on the camera a couple of times. I was able to get directly under him on a few of these. Anyhoo, shout out to Oakley (plug) and keep your eyes peeled for Andy’s Bike Check video coming soon.
