ALLEY CAT – DASH 4 THE CASH (SAN FRANCISCO)

February 7, 2020

DASH 4 THE CASH is one of the best races of the year. It’s a straight shot, no bars held, race from the top of Twin Peaks to The Island at the Embarcadero. Knowledge of the city means nothing in a sprint like this. Only your bravery and ability to read / dodge traffic. Think of Frogger, but on track bikes for the entire length of Market. Anyways, Robert Gaines & I were in town to join in and be a part of the festivities.

Shout out to MASH’s very own Mike Martin & Jake Ricker for filming the event. They kicked over the footage for me to chop together into this little video jammer for y’all. Jack washed out at the top of the hill but still managed to take home the Fixie gold medal. The rest of us barely made it down the hill and across Market in one piece. I love that the top of Twin Peaks has turned into a skate haven and is grilled with graffiti. RIP Pablo. Plant seeds everywhere you go and we’ll see you at this year’s DASH 4 THE CASH.

FIXED GEAR SF – ANTHONY COMBS & MIKE JAY

February 4, 2020

Anthony Combs & Mike Jay. It feels like the good old days when everyone gets together in SF like this. China Banks, The Island, all of it. The vibes are good when settings like this see so many familiar faces. I swear every time I see Mike Jay he’s riding a different bike. He always did have the hottest builds, but Combs still has the highest hops. He could probably still throw a bar spin over you if you laid down. Any bike, doesn’t matter, as long as it can bar spin, he’ll huck it. Until next time fellas, let’s make this a more regular thing.

FIXED GEAR SF – ANDY SPARKS

January 21, 2020

Whenever I’m in The Bay, I call up Andy Sparks. I like to imagine that a video game ring tone goes off on his end, he puts down his gameboy, picks up the phone, does a backflip off the bed and says. “Yo yo, what’s uppp.” Actually I’m pretty sure that’s how it happens. Anyways after a quick Bart ride from Berkley Andy usually hops off at the Embarcadero where we meet up at the Clocktower. It’s easy to get stuck there, but we know that. So after a couple quick tricks, we both stop riding look each other in the eyes and go… “yeah, let’s get outta here.”

We filmed for a solo video of Andy earlier this Summer and will probably drop that later this month, but until then scroll through some photos from our time filming. Every time I visit San Francisco it’s a completely different experience and I’m really glad we got to film / ride at some of the places we did for this video. Stay tuned and long live Trick Track.

FIXED GEAR SF – CONCRETE AROUND EVERY CORNER

January 14, 2020

This sewer vent is always going off and recently I was lucky enough to catch it at just the right time of day that it was the only thing illuminated on that side of the block. I immediately pulled over, put my bike in it (regrettably) and caught these photos. It oxidized my wheels in this weird way and now they’re only kinda black, mostly gray and super water spotty. It’s kinda rad, I’ve had these wheels for forever.

Concrete looks its best in black & white. I’ve been dreaming of this shot of Gus (above on the right) for a while now and I’m glad we were finally able to get it. There’s a similar shot of Kameren Boun soaring over San Francisco in the latest issue of LOOP Magazine. Pick one up if you have a chance, I always find one at the book store in Japan town. Also another important note, no birds were harmed in the shooting of these photos. I repeat Jack did not harm any birds in the process of these skids. Alright, that’s enough for now, more photos below. We’ll catch you next time.

FIXED GEAR SF – THURSDAY NIGHT RIDES

December 23, 2019

PKT or better known as “Thursday Night Rides” pop off every week during the summer here in San Francisco. Everyone links up at Bike Kitchen in the Mission and embarks on a different city loop every week. I caught one of them and brought my camera along for the ride. It was nice to only have to carry a single camera for a change. Usually I’m geared up with the full kit, but for this I decided to drop everything off at home and keep it light. Shout out to Patrick Fixie King & Phixed Bikes for organizing so many meetups in the Bay Area. Y’all are really doing great working bringing the community together.

FIXED GEAR SF – OLEK MENDOZA ON THE BRINK

October 23, 2019

“What happens in the black hole, stays in the black hole” – said the quote on his t-shirt. Olek Mendoza is rad. I met him a couple years ago when I was visiting in San Fransisco and was hyped to see someone his age finding a love for fixed gear. He was one of the first in a new wave of riders hitting San Francisco. Makes me wish I found out about track bikes when I was his age instead of wasting my youth on rollerblades.

Olek always has the cleanest builds and I’m glad we got to shoot some photos of him riding his MASH AC1 before he swapped it out for a LOW. Check out more photos below and throw Olek a wicked sweet high five for me the next time you see him.

WHEEL TALK – LONG JUMP CONTEST / VIDEO PREMIERE

October 8, 2019

Signed, sealed, delivered. For the SF Premiere of the latest Wheel Talk video “NO REST”, we decided to make a janky ramp and wheel it down to The Island. Everybody caught some air, with a few people sending it straight into next week. Big ups for everyone who came out to have some fun, and shout out to Mission Workshop for letting us get rowdy in their space. The longest jump on a fixed gear was somewhere around 16 ft in case anybody was wondering.
