Ed Wonka Laforte Presents “Harness The Gnarness” a FGFS Jam hosted in Down Town Oakland this weekend. 11.16.14 There’s going to be a $5 entry fee to make things a little more interesting for those who want to compete as well as prizes to be given out along the way to all those who ride. We’ll meeting up at Madison Park “Dragon Park” which is located between 8th & 9th next to the Lake Meritt Bart Station at noon. From there we’ll be riding spot to spot until the sun sets. Double Exposures were something that I experimented with quite a bit when I first started shooting 35mm film, and have since then fallen out of touch with this drunken sense of double vision. Here’s some of the first few double exposures I took, featuring Fixed Gear Freestyle’s very own Ed “Wonnka” Laforte. Although it may sometimes be difficult to see, I enjoy the added interest stacking shots gives to the photograph. I was looking through some older photos on my computer and came across these two shots that Seitaro Iki took of Ed “Wonka” Laforte riding a double peg down a rail in down town Oakland. These were taken back when we were still filming for Word Is Bond and were shot on the same day that Ed did the huge hanger at the end of his section. After nearly a year in the making and being put on the back burner in order to produce “Word Is Bond“, here’s the official video from the Wheel Talk Trip to Japan. Filmed over the course of our two week stay and was made possible because of our dudes from Fish & Chips Crew. After traveling around the Southern tip of Japan on a 9 State tour, and flying out to Tokyo to visit Marco we were only able to scratch the surface on what unreal street spots Japan had to offer. I don’t know if there’s much more I can say about this trip that I haven’t already, so press play and check out some screenshots below.
As we gear up to release the video from the Wheel Talk trip to Japan last year, I dug up a bunch of photos that were never posted. Between Seitaro Iki and myself, we shot a ton of stills and even more video. Documenting everything from our daily expeditions around whatever town we were in that day, to our nightly pit stop at Yayoiken for dinner. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since we left on our voyage to Japan. Editing the video from this trip got put on back burner in order to finish up Word Is Bond, but is now ready to be released. Expect a new Wheel Talk video coming out sometime next week. Until then, here’s a couple photos I dug up of Ed “Wonka” Laforte doing a double peg at this nearly abandoned amusement park we rode while staying in Tokyo. Check out more photos from that day here.
With the summer in full effect, we’ve been making use of the extended daylight and doing a lot of filming after work. Here’s an older photo I found of Ed Wonka doing a smith with only a sliver of light left illuminating the spot. Although this photograph is only a few months old, the loading dock has been completely covered by cement and fenced off. We managed to shoot this image a couple days before they remodeled the exterior of the building and covered up the spot. Photo Credit : Matt Reyes
