Wheel Talk x Rapha: The 2019 Kit

April 1, 2019

It’s been 3 years since we released a new kit. Not only have we been waiting for the right time but we have also been hunting for the right manufacturer to make the kits. Having worked with two companies previously we either had issues with high minimums or not exactly the quality we were expecting. We were looking for something that we felt would match the care we put into the brand. Luckily Rapha decided to step their toes into the custom game right at the same time we were relaunching the website and Wheel Talk brand. Being friends of the Rapha brand we were quickly put in touch with their lead creatives to see what we could come up with. After some emails and some toying around with their editing tool we were able to come up with a style that we were happy with. Also, knowing that it will get produced with Rapha quality leaves us with no worry that the finished product will be what we envisioned.

We hope y’all are as happy with this as we are. Pre-orders will be open all month with an 8 week lead time. All orders will be shipped priority mail once they arrive.

Happy riding everyone!

SPENCER SIEGRIST – AN INTRODUCTION AND THE STOKE FOR ALL THINGS DIRT / FIXED

March 31, 2019

What up fellow Riders! Spencer here, the newest contributor to Wheel Talk. I wanted to introduce myself, go over my love(s) for riding, and provide a scoop on what you can expect to see from me in what’s shaping up to be frickin’ awesome year for bike riding. So let’s get into it.

I’ve been riding bikes for well over 12 years now, with the past 9 years residing in San Francisco, California. I was fully convinced I’d be able to push my limits and grow as a rider after diving straight into a truly fast paced topographically-rich city. And… I was right.

My first bike love was (and remains in many ways) forged on the urban track bike. I specifically say ‘urban track’ because I am not a velodrome track racer or possess (much of any) traditional track hardware on my current fixed rig. I always found myself firmly split between doing tricks and charging down hills, slashing thru car traffic to be my own personal bread n’ butter.

BIKE CHECK – MATT REYES’ MASH STEEL FRAME (SMOKE)

March 28, 2019

This bike has it all. The MASH STEEL FRAME has quickly become my favorite build and is the closest thing I’ve had to owning a trick track setup in a really long time. It parts the sea between all my bikes and is literally the perfect middle ground between being a fast track bike and a freestyle build that can handle it all, but most importantly… it can bar spin. I can already feel a resurgence of people looking for setups that have the clearance to kick flip. The MASH steel frame + a little longer fork can do just that. Word on the street is that MASH just got ahold of a few Volume Forks from different generations if you’re looking to upgrade. ‘ll put together a video bike check that goes into greater detail soon, but for now enjoy these studio photos and parts breakdown.

FGFS LA 2019 – FIRST SESSION IN TOWN

February 27, 2019

First off I’ll start by saying how good it feels being back in California. A place where the sun and weather are on your side. The Mexican food tastes fucking awesome and you can step outside in a t-shirt. All things I took for granted. Until now that is. I’ve been loading up on burritos and soaking up the sunshine now that both those things are readily available.

Last weekend I drove down to Norwalk to meet up w/ the boys. JBALL and Deacon Wong managed to get me in a car to actually drive to a spot. 9 Freeways later and there I was. Standing in a parking lot with Deacon waiting 2 hour for JBALL to arrive. Haha. Somebody get this mans a watch. It’s a good thing Deacon brought with him every toy imaginable: scooter, mini fixie, skateboard, etc. Actually that’s not that much, but in my mind he might as well have brought a pogo stick. All that being said, I’m glad he did because it really helped pass the time.

After sessioning some school for what felt like forever, we rode out in search of spots in neighborhood. First up was this rail that JBALL hopped with ease. (see photo for details) Then we went to this out ledge that was pretty rounded and made it difficult to grind. Stay on your grind. A young @CHASEFGFS came out and showed us what he’s made of. I snapped this sequence of him and wish I shot more because the kid is amazing. Once everyone had their fill, we made our way to the top of this parking garage where we ended the day. (Or at least I did, I think they went and rode a skatepark afterwards) On the drive home Slam Dunk Ernie talked about how much fun we had and some of the aireal clips we shot of Marco Marquez. We’ll have to do it again soon. Until next time fam.

BIKE CHECK – MATT REYES’ MASH AC-1

January 29, 2019

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, MASHSF finds a way to one up themselves. Presenting the first Aluminum Frame produced entirely by them. It looks good seeing that big logo. The frame set comes with a full carbon fork that they had custom molded for super tight clearance. This is by and far my favorite graphic color way they’ve released. There’s something about those grays that get me every time. Not to mention I’m a sucker for the whole film esthetic of theirs. Check out a full parts rundown and a handful of other images below.

FIXED GEAR PDX – FREE PARKING

January 15, 2019

We’re always looking for a new roof to ride on and lucky for us Portland’s downtown is packed full of empty parking garages. All of which have an elevator that takes you straight to the top. Ideal for most hang out situations, we highly recommend you check your local listings and find a parking structure near you. Just because it’s built for cars doesn’t mean we can’t have our fun.

MASHSF VHS – PRESS PLAY

January 10, 2019

If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right. Filmed on 05.20.2017 this is a video that almost slipped through the cracks. We just never got around to chopping it together. Until last night that is. There will be an even longer SF track bike video with more riders coming out in the next month. So keep your eyes peeled for that and until then enjoy this. Shout out to MASHSF for always giving us a place to hang and for constantly throwing gas on the fire.
