COLIN CABLE | INTERVIEW

March 20, 2012

Last night I had a chance to sit down and interview the man who got me into riding fixed gear, and taught me the basics. Colin, aka “Gonzo” has been a good friend of mine for a few years now, and is the one person who inspired me to ride the most. I caught this photo of him sliding a Luc-e grind on this steep downhill ledge in SF.
Name : Colin “Gonzo Grape” Cable
Hometown : San Jose / Poway
Age : 22
You got me into riding, how long have you been riding fixed? : I first rode a fixed gear in the summer of 2007, and from there on in I was hooked. It was about the same time the MashSF trailer popped up on youtube.
I remember when you were the only kid in town riding fixed. You used to go around saying “hey peep this”, and bust keo spins in front of every girl you could. What’s changed since then? : Haha damn those were the days. I’ve just been growing up, riding and focusing on progressing in life. So much has happened I don’t know where to begin. I’m just amazed how much the definition of riding fixed has changed.
Scott didn’t know what “Ginger Power” was, perhaps you can shed some light on the subject? : Well I still don’t know what “Ginger Power” is but I guess it’s some sort of aura we have. People can spot us out anywhere.
Did you ever think Fixed Freestyle would get to this level? : Not at first, but eventually we broke through, and the 26″ wheel in a way helped legitimize the sport.
Any last words? : Shout out to the homies who been down since day one, and everyone pushing the sport in a positive light. It can only get bigger from here
