MISSION CRIT VII – 2022 PHOTOS

September 6, 2022

San Francisco’s legendary Mission Crit popped off over the weekend with 6 days packed full of track bike racing & mayhem. The event tee’d off on Wednesday at Hellyer Velodrome, then moved back up to The City on Thursday with an alleycat + registration. Things then heated up on Friday night with a short circuit race held at an indoor go-kart track. This event brought to life the term “rubbing is racing” as riders were sent over the knee high barricades more than a handful of times (Video evidence HERE).

All of which brought us to Saturday’s main event, the Mission Criterium. Riders from around the globe came to partake in what has become the largest fixed gear race on the planet. With that being said, I’d like to take a moment and give huge shoutout to James Grady, the countless volunteers and everyone who helped to bring the fixed gear community together for this incredibly memorable moment. Things wouldn’t be the same without all of your continuous efforts. (More info on Mission Crit + the Fixed Gear Triple Crown can be found HERE)

After all was said and done there wasn’t a single person without a smile on their face. The course was cleared and the streets that were shutdown for the race were graciously given back to the city until we could do it all over again next year. If racers weren’t tired yet they could look forward to the Tracklocross race on Sunday followed by the “Giro di San Francisco” on Monday. If you raced all 6 days or even showed up to all 6 events, then go ahead and give yourself a massive pat on the back. It’s probably a good time to take it easy as we hopefully exit out of this mind numbing heat wave here in California. ๐Ÿฅต ๐Ÿ

FIXED GEAR SF – MUSGUARD SEASON

May 24, 2020

You know I keep that MF thang on me. Musguards that is. When winter hits in San Francisco, keeping a pair of fenders on you is crucial. My favorite part about the Musguard system is the convenience of rolling them up and storing them in your backpack when they’re not needed. The rollablity and small form factor make it easy to keep them on you at all times for those “just in case” type moments. I used them 9 months out of the year when we lived in Portland and bring them with me whenever I travel. They’ve saved the day more times than I can count.

Jake, Daniel & I recently dropped a video of us putting them to work. It didn’t do much for the rain falling from above, but it definitely stopped most of the street water from splashing up on us. Which is honestly the only water I’m concerned about. Haha. There’s nothing like a mouthful of street sludge. We highly recommend MUSGUARD to anybody looking for a fender solution. 10 outta 10 would buy again and again.

FIXED GEAR SF – HOW TO RIDE YOUR BIKE IN THE RAIN

May 22, 2020

Heavy rains brought flash floods in San Francisco, but that didn’t stop us from going out and riding bikes. This is more of a demonstration than it is a how to but there really isn’t much to riding in the rain. Get yourself some fenders, in our case these “Musguards” and bring a change of clothes if you’re going somewhere. That’s it. After rolling around until our clothes weighed an extra 9lbs, we eventually made our way to MASH SF where Mike Martin gave us both shelter and fresh socks. Shout outs to MASH for always taking care of us. I love a good rainy day in SF. “It’s Just Water” – SMACKTRACKZ

FIXED GEAR LA – FIXIE OUTTA TOWNERS

March 20, 2020

These two. If you know em, then you already know. They’re pretty much inseparable, and can usually be found in front of Serranos, or at the 18th / 22nd street Parklets which have all basically been adopted as their second homes. Jake & Daniel’s fits are always dialed in and came baring some of the latest fixie drip. That new MASH SF Jersey looks ๐Ÿ”ฅ. This is the first time I’ve seen the EightyXProof frame set in person. The last time Robert was in town he showed us some line drawings of it and was super stoked. I’m glad to see that one made its way into the hands of Daniel Something. If you haven’t already seen the video we just dropped of these two, then I highly suggest you check it out.
