FIXED GEAR – 420 ALLEY CAT IN SAN FRANCISCO

May 30, 2018

It’s four-twenty in San Francisco, and you know what that means. Bikes & buds. We got the gang together and rode around earlier in the day before heading to Union Square for the start of the 3rd Annual 420 Alley Cat. With Mission Crit right around the corner, the turn out for unsanctioned good time was insane. I only rode to half the race before throwing in the towel and taking a load off at the final checkpoint. Joints were being thrown, beers were being slammed and friendly rivalries met their match as people began to trickle into the after party. Shout out to everyone who helped throw this eventful weekend, and to Crihs Thormann for making it even more memorable.

I had a ton of fun piecing this one together, and am stoked to spend more time shooting with this GoPro we just added to our camera arsenal. Keep your eyes peeled for more fun follow footage in the near future.

RED BULL BAY CLIMB – VIDEO

September 26, 2017

Cheap thrills & climbing hills. If there’s a fixie event happening, nearby we’ll be there. With our camera’s ready, our heads bouncing, and high fives being thrown in every direction. We’re always ready to cut loose and have a good time. If there’s one thing boy scouts taught me, it’s “be prepared”.

The Red Bull Bay Climb in San Francisco was a real cliff hanger. As in everybody felt like they were standing on the face of a cliff the entire time . To even make it to the top, is a feat strength in itself. Word on the street is that 103 total miles were raced by all of the participants. I always enjoy shooting the fixed gear events we take part in and usually find a friend to help capture the times I’m not behind the lens. This time Portland’s finest Ramon Antonio III came down to contribute to this 60 second recap.

It was great kicking it with all the homies in The Bay. Until next time.

RED BULL BAY CLIMB – PHOTOS

September 21, 2017

I can barely even walk up this hill. Maybe I’m speaking for myself, but I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who felt this way. Red Bull always delivers the goods when it comes to events and creative content. This was no exception. With 3 city blocks and a 21% grade standing in your way, everybody was feeling the pain by the time they made it to the top of San Francisco’s De Haro Street.

“What’s your ratio?” All anybody could talk about. Is basically the slogan for the day. Sums up the entire event, I wouldn’t change a thing. We used to film a lot of skateboard videos down De Haro, and I’ll be the first to say that it’s no joke. Bury you alive, cross your t’s, dot your i’s type of shit. This event was in part reaction to the downhill race Red Bull hosted on De Haro a couple years ago. Check that out HERE. The most entertaining portion of the day was watching all the fixies make their way up the hill. It was like watching the little engine that could. I’m proud to be part of that train.

TCB RACE – PARKS & WRECK

July 24, 2016

Beers don’t normally grow on trees, but they might as well have during yesterday’s TCB cross race. The flyer said something about bringing a backpack and a handful of sanitizer, which left us with more than a handful of questions. It was a race around a track that was littered with bicycle debris, trash, feathers and warm beers that were hidden throughout the course. Each lap counted as a point as well as each piece of trash collected along the way. At the end of the 30 minute race the points were tallied and the park looked cleaner than ever. Shout out to RJ Rabe & Ramon for hosting this one and keep an ear to the ground for next month’s.

The homie Jason Sellers (FWD Bound) has been staying at my pad for the last couple weeks and had the chance to shoot photos during the 3rd Annual Mission Crit that happened over the weekend. He compiled 30 images from the day to post here and is headed off to NY tomorrow where he’ll be shooting all the action at the Red Hook Crit in Brooklyn as well. I’m going to miss having this dude around the house, but am looking forward to seeing him in New York next week. Shout out to James Grady for organizing this event and making it more memorable year after year. Read more to check out the other 25 images from the collection.

MASH SF WORLD PREMIERE 2015

The MASH SF World Premiere was nothing short of inspiring. Everyone bolted and by the time they reached their bikes they were swallowed up by smoke. I grabbed my ride and scrambled to find a familiar face to follow, but ended up getting swept up by the rest of the pack. The Alleycat consisted of a 8 stop loop around the city with a vicious climb up Twin Peaks to kick things off. We climbed to the top of 17th and saw a car flip over so we dropped everything and quickly ran to their aid until the EMTs showed up. http://www.wheeltalkfixed.com/2015/mash-sf-world-premiere-2015/ http://www.wheeltalkfixed.com/2015/mash-sf-world-premiere-2015/ http://www.wheeltalkfixed.com/2015/mash-sf-world-premiere-2015/ http://www.wheeltalkfixed.com/2015/mash-sf-world-premiere-2015/ http://www.wheeltalkfixed.com/2015/mash-sf-world-premiere-2015/After the grueling race was over we all linked back up in the Mission at The Lab where they had 10 years of MASH on display along with free drinks and snacks. It was an impressive thing to see the line up of Jerseys and bikes they’ve had over the years. The doors out front of the Victoria Theatre held a line most of the night with people anxious to get in. Once the video started playing the room ignited with a roar which lasted most of the showing. If you didn’t have a chance to see it they’ll be playing it at Interbike next week as well as a bunch of other locations around the globe.
