Marco Marquez has been flying under the radar for far too long. It wasn’t until I moved to Los Angeles that I really had a chance to ride with the man and let me tell you. He has one of the most explosive riding styles out of anybody I’ve ever seen ride FGFS. I’m talking double bar spins, 540s, wheelie 3’s. Tricks that are unreasonably difficult to do.
A couple days ago we linked up and rode a couple spots on the outskirts of Culver City. For those who don’t know where that is, it’s basically an imaginary city in the center of Los Angeles where a bunch of Movie studios are located. I think it’s a tax thing. Idk, who can tell. If you know more than me, please reach out and fill me in, I’d love to know more. Anyways. Marco is rad and we’ve been stacking a ton of clips in the last week, so keep your eyes peeled for a video of him tearing up LA. (Culver City to be exact) Haha.

You know I keep that MF thang on me. Musguards that is. When winter hits in San Francisco, keeping a pair of fenders on you is crucial. My favorite part about the Musguard system is the convenience of rolling them up and storing them in your backpack when they’re not needed. The rollablity and small form factor make it easy to keep them on you at all times for those “just in case” type moments. I used them 9 months out of the year when we lived in Portland and bring them with me whenever I travel. They’ve saved the day more times than I can count.
Jake, Daniel & I recently dropped a video of us putting them to work. It didn’t do much for the rain falling from above, but it definitely stopped most of the street water from splashing up on us. Which is honestly the only water I’m concerned about. Haha. There’s nothing like a mouthful of street sludge. We highly recommend MUSGUARD to anybody looking for a fender solution. 10 outta 10 would buy again and again.

Venice beach has always been a hub for freestyle bike riding. One of the first things I did when I moved to LA was watch a relentless amount of 80’s BMX videos of some of the founders of the freestyle movement riding at Venice. It’s an amazing feeling pushing pedals on the same piece of earth as the legends that came before us.
Knowing your history only makes your future brighter and Andy Sparks is a testimony to that. He’s one of the few riders I know that’s well versed on his 80’s BMX history and that knowledge comes through in his riding. Both with the tricks he has up his sleeve and his unwavering respect for the sport.
Jake 100 came to town with a handful of the homies late last year. We met up twice while he was out here, once in DTLA (Video HERE) and once at Venice Beach for a more laid back session by the sand. With Summer quickly approaching I’m looking forward to the city reopening the beaches so I can go hop in the Ocean and kick it by the biggest pool in town. West coast, best coast. Chances are that if you seen Jake Lanich riding around town, he’s probably wearing this backpack. I’m pretty sure that Jake just pulls over at the end of the day, opens his bag, and climbs in it for the night. It’s literally that spacious. Young Tool is a hometown hero in the Bay Area. If you know of Tool then I’m sure you’ve seen him work the bars and wild out at any given ride out or hang out spot. Jake Lanich, Patrick Curley AKA “Patrick Fixie King” & I met up with him in downtown San Francisco. The streets were wet, the air was warm, and there was hardly a car on the road in the Financial district. We took full advantage of both that and all of the glowing lights from the new bus terminal and convention center. Looking forward to this whole lockdown business to be over with so we can all attempt to get back to life as we used to know it. Times change, but the will to ride lives on.

Tyler Johnson is one of the Fixie Founding Fathers and pioneered a lot of tricks that were never before done on a fixed gear drive train. Anyways, here are a bunch of photos I took during the filming of the latest Wheel Talk video entitled “Suffering”. I miss how perfectly gloomy Portland was all the time. These two. If you know em, then you already know. They’re pretty much inseparable, and can usually be found in front of Serranos, or at the 18th / 22nd street Parklets which have all basically been adopted as their second homes. Jake & Daniel’s fits are always dialed in and came baring some of the latest fixie drip. That new MASH SF Jersey looks 🔥. This is the first time I’ve seen the EightyXProof frame set in person. The last time Robert was in town he showed us some line drawings of it and was super stoked. I’m glad to see that one made its way into the hands of Daniel Something. It’s 2020 and the first FIXIE GOONS Ride Out was a hot one. Even the LAPD came to check out the good times. We had helicopters over head, squad cars behind us and the entire neighborhood wondering what was going on. Oh, don’t mind us, we’re just out here riding bikes and having fun.
